This fingerboard is too thin to plane, and too pitted to play as is. In other words, it's worn out.
Once the fingerboard has been carefully removed, old glue is soaked off the neck.
Using a plane and flat plate, the back of the fingerboard is flattened, as is the neck surface of the violin.
The top of the fingerboard is shaped to match a template.
A marking guage is used to set the edge thickness.
The sides of the fingerboard are planed to the width of the neck.
The end is made square
Once glued, the fingerboard recieves a final dressing and sanding.
A nut is fit.
Grooves for the strings are made with a file.
After gluing it on, the nut is shaped to match the curve of the fingerboard. The string placements are marked on the nut.
The fingerboard is now ready to play.
