A set of worn-out pegs Ebony pegs usually last about 25 to 30 years.

Note that the peg shaft is no longer straight.

Tools used to replace pegs

The peg shaft is shaped with a tool that resembles a pencil sharpener.

The peg holes are reshaped using a special tapered reamer.

The peg as it is fitted

Marks are made to drill the string-holes.

At this point the peg holes are checked and made as straight as possible.

The pegs are turned until the heads stick out a precise amount.
